Why Can’ t More People From Norway Move Here?
President Trump wants more Norwegians to move here, but despite their long harsh winters they aren’t coming. They are happy at home — in fact, they are rated the happiest people in the world! Is that because they have free education, a higher life expectancy at birth than the U.S., lower rates of infant mortality, inexpensive yet high quality health care, low employment and are the richest country per capita in the world?
Another reason why they aren’t coming here is the language issue. Norwegians children begin to study English as their second language at the age of six so they become proficient and learn to speak with correct grammar. Obviously, they would be alarmed to hear these commonplace ungrammatical constructions:
“Eat Healthy!”
“Drive Safe. “
“Her and me are going to the store.”
“Sara and me want to meet you.”
“Their oldest child” (when there are only two.)
“And the amount of calories.” (even when the quantities are huge they are still countable-as in number…)
Plus, we only have two descriptions: Awesome! or Amazing! English, a language exalted for its richness, has been demeaned by the richest English-speaking country. Which is one reason why our inarticulate President was elected.
But probably the biggest reason to avoid us is God. The countries with the nice white people that Trump wants to attract are walking away from faith. As fast as possible. After two thousand years of Christianity.
The people Trump wants to attract are not looking for freedom from religion. Meanwhile, Americans are tight with God. We put him on our currency, insert him in every speech, and thank him for getting a good deal on Black Friday. Ninety percent of Americans are believers. As are the so-called “undesirable” immigrants from these economically poorer countries. They should fit right in with the President’s faith-based supporters.
