SAM STOMACH Talks: I Already Know When to Stop
Hi.
Sam Stomach here.
I’ve been listening to all this very thoughtful feedback about the 80 Bites app, and I just want to say: wow. So many ideas. So many trackers. So many charts. So many feelings.
Apparently, I need a calendar now.
And historical data.
And applause.
Let me be clear: I don’t need encouragement.
I need less food.
Everyone keeps telling me the app should track more. Multiple meals. Daily totals. Weekly averages. Graphs. Progress visuals. Sound effects that clap when you behave. Maybe a gold star. Maybe a parade.
No.
Stop.
I’m a stomach, not a needy rescue puppy.
My job is very simple. I stretch. I notice. And at a certain point I say, “That’s enough.” I’ve been doing this for thousands of years. I don’t require a dashboard.
People say the bite counter feels “heavy.” Like every bite is weighing you down. Guess what? That’s actually how fullness works. You put things in me, and eventually… I’m full. Not spiritually full. Not metaphorically full. Just done.
The real problem isn’t that people don’t have enough data.
The problem is they don’t pause long enough to hear me.
And listen—this app is 99 cents. Ninety-nine. And by the end of one week, you will pocket ten times the dough ($9.99).
Not a lifestyle coach. Not a 12-week transformation journey. Not a cinema universe. It’s a speed bump. It slows you down just long enough for me to tap you on the shoulder and say, “Hey. We’re good.”
And yes, I’ve heard the argument:
“But Sam, people want satisfaction. They want to feel successful. They want to pat themselves on the back.”
Why?
When something actually works, you don’t need cheerleaders. You just stop eating sooner. That’s the reward.
You know what really retrains me? Not confetti. Not affirmations. Fewer bites.
This morning, my human poured a bowl of Grape-Nuts. I like Grape-Nuts. She added prunes. Raspberries. Milk. Sugar. The second she looked at it, she knew it was too much. I knew it too.
She sat down anyway. Took maybe 25 or 26 bites. And then I said:
“Nope.”
Did we count them? No.
Did we log them? No.
Did we need a calendar? Definitely not.
She threw the rest away. That’s how learning works.
People keep insisting they need to track every bite forever. Here’s a secret: you’re not going to eat more than four meals a day. Remember four numbers. Or write them down. That alone turns your brain on—and your brain burns more calories than I do.
And don’t get me started on The List.
Sleep optimization. Journaling. Meditation. Hydration rituals. Expensive water bottles. Twenty-five things you’re told you must do.
It’s exhausting.
I’m just trying to do my job over here.
And yes, science stepped in. Finally. GLP-1s helped quiet the chaos upstairs so people could hear me again. Good. About time.
Because the problem was never “eat healthy.”
That was code for “eat endless low-calorie foods.”
The answer—say it with me—is eat less.
Fewer bites. In a meal. Then stop.
So no, I don’t need more tracking.
I need space.
A pause.
And fewer mouthfuls.
Now if you’ll excuse me,
I’m full.
