“Matilda’s Law”: Another Poor Decision
Does anyone remember when the planes hit the Towers on September 11, 2001, some big shot Official directed that 412 EMERGENCY WORKERS — including 343 Firefighters — go into the buildings to save people? They all died. Unnecessarily. Months later the official analysis concluded that sending these people in was a Huge Mistake.
Now the same shortsighted Officials are leading us to more mistakes. Who is more important — Cuomo’s 88-year-old Mother Matilda representing the elderly — or the MDs and Nurses and Physicians Assistants and Nurse Practitioners and all other medical personnel who are being infected while we pretend that every life can be saved.
We already have an insufficient number of Medical Professionals to care for the ill who have cancer and stroke and 20 other issues. Medical staff now have insufficient protection for their bodies; a limited supply of ventilators; and no Covid19 medications. So there is really very little they can actually do for the very few who have COPD and existing health issues that will be problematic for surviving this virus. If in the process of trying to save these people the Health Professionals become infected then everyone else suffers.
Mass Casualty Triage is where we should be. If we do this now then we can protect the Medical Staff and the ECONOMY. We know that Covid19 doesn’t affect kids and typical symptoms are mild or nonexistent. Other viruses were immediately deadly and children were affected too.
I live in New York City and I don’t know even one person who has been affected. Meanwhile, the media is scaring us as they become more self-important. In a crisis, they have so much more to report whereas usually they only have boring news about how some candidates spent two billion dollars to get some votes and how many of their “base” showed up at a rally. The media are not losing their paychecks. The politicians are on TV even more and they thrive on this activity. They are getting paid too. But the people are losing their paychecks.
There are NO good choices — only two options:
#1: Allow people to go to work and SAVE the Economy and Protect the Health Professionals we will need in the future.
#2. Destroy the Economy and Save some already ill and aged people and infect our Health Professionals.
What we need to analyze the better option is :
A list of every death and the details: age; previous medical issues; and location. For example, it appears that those who died in Wuhan were chain smokers living in polluted air from the industrial activity. They were on borrowed time before the virus. And then there were deaths of the MDs who became infected continuously trying to save people with already damaged bodies. Many people become ill every year from common respiratory diseases. Remember, 156,000 people, die every DAY regardless of this virus.
The people living on borrowed time should not be able to cancel everyone else’s future. Flattening the curve will FLATTEN US. Obviously, if you have diabetes ( about 31 million) or are pre-diabetic ( about 76 million) you are going to have a worse case of Covid19. After this crisis is over though we should be able to flatten the obesity curve.
