Can the Catholic Church and Steve Bannon solve immigration and global warming in one fell swoop?
Now that Steve Bannon is no longer the White House Chief Strategist, Charlie Rose was able to get access and grill him for hours.
In a recently aired segment of 60 Minutes and for three nights on his own show, Bannon spilled the beans and let us peek into the inner workings of The Donald’s mind from his influential perch at Breitbart.com.
We all know that “facts” have a pretty malleable definition in this administration. But if we lay everything out, connect the dots, and spin a few things around like the White House would… maybe we can find a happy place for the WALL, the Dreamers, and Mexico…
The WALL(s)
Almost 10 months after inauguration, we aren’t seeing one single brick laid down for the infamous WALL.
Our President may not know much about Korea, G20, or NATO but he sure did a pretty decent job putting up visible hotel walls without any of his own cash. We aren’t seeing any physical barrier with other nations yet, but walls — invisible ones — are getting built all right.
Anyway, back to that big bad actual WALL…
Bannon was understandably upset when Rose questioned him about this failed promise. After all, it was the crown jewel of Trump’s campaign. So Bannon maintained that it will happen since it’s essential because the illegal immigrants have to go.
That brings us to the next issue…
The Catholic Church and the Immigrants
Catholic Republicans helped put the Donald on the throne. No wonder the Bannon interview went south as Rose pointed out that the Catholic Church disagrees with Trump’s position on immigration and illegal immigrants and Dreamers. An enraged Bannon said the Catholic Church had welcomed these illegals only because they needed bodies to fill the pews. It seems that the child molestation affair had emptied the coffers and started a mass exodus from Mass.
The response from Cardinal Dolan was that Bannon’s statement was “preposterous,” “insulting” and “ridiculous.” It doesn’t merit a response.
Sound familiar? Isn’t this the same response we heard from the Church when the child victims came forward?
Bannon is an observant Irish Catholic. He claims to agree with the bishops on doctrine but said they should stay out of politics.
Convenient, isn’t it? Only agree with the doctrine when it agrees with you.
A Different Take On Why the Mexicans Are Here
Now that Bannon has brought the Catholic Church into the mix, let’s pursue this avenue and gather some facts.
Catholics make up 83% of the Mexico’s population of 128 million, which live in a space of only 760,000 square miles.
It’s a beautiful country… wonderful climate, jungles, deserts, mountains, glorious beaches on both the Gulf and the Pacific.
It has fertile land for agriculture and natural resources such as silver, copper, gold, lead, zinc, natural gas, timber, and oil.
And the Mexican people are grounded by thousands of years of culture that’s wrapped around a sonorous language.
The country is a paradise… not some frozen tundra in Siberia or sand pit in a Middle East desert.
And there are really talented people too. I have a mental picture of this Mexican woman whom I knew from years ago. She’s the Ultimate Domestic Goddess — she could handle anything from ironing a Tuxedo shirt into perfection, to arranging flowers better than a florist, to cleaning a kitchen so well that it’s fit for open heart surgery, and even removing spots that have stained a garment for years. Plus cook delicious dishes from several cuisines!
Yes, she is earning a living in America, but she misses her country.
She didn’t come here because she wanted to run away from the paradise or leave her 13 siblings behind.
13 siblings… and her family isn’t the only one with so many members. (Hello, Catholic Church and contraception?)
There are simply too many people vying for work south of the border so there’s a job shortage for even the talented ones.
Maybe It’s Time For Trump To Play Nice With the Catholic Church
If we put the facts together, maybe we have a solution!
Since Bannon agrees 100% with church doctrines maybe he can broker a deal, à la Trump the Dealmaker, and convince it to get modernized so we can solve a bunch of pressing issues all at once.
Global warming and overpopulation aggregate each other.
What if we keep the illegal immigrants here for their talents (and to fill the pews!) and get the church to give all of its flock amnesties on the contraception ban?
Maybe the population in Mexico would stop exploding, then the people will just stay in paradise rather than leaving their families behind — and risking their lives to cross the border.
Then guess what — we don’t even need the Wall!
That assumes we still have enough bodies to fill the jobs here… before robots and AI take over.
Maybe the robots will become so efficient that people will run out of things to do so they’d sneak across the border to enjoy some warm climate, glorious beaches, and a welcoming culture!
(The table turns… who’s going to build a wall and who’ll be paying for it?)
Olé!
(Full disclosure: Andrew Breitbart and I are/were related — but he came into the family via adoption.)
